Built by someone who has run the roster.
Most NDIS software is a generic workforce tool with NDIS language bolted on. Nuvela was built the other way round — from inside the work.
Why Nuvela exists
Before Nuvela, I spent years in enterprise change management and digital transformation in the UK, including work on NHS systems, and enterprise ICT delivery. Then I moved to Brisbane and started working in NDIS staffing — rate cards, staffing agreements, SCHADS payroll, the actual mechanics of getting support workers paid correctly and getting claims through.
That's where the problem became obvious. Providers were running a roster in one tool, payroll in another, claims in a spreadsheet, and compliance in a filing cabinet. Every handover between those systems was somewhere hours went missing or money got lost. The software on the market either didn't understand the SCHADS Award, didn't understand NDIS claiming, or charged per user in a sector where staff turnover is high.
So I built the thing I couldn't buy.
Built with providers, not at them
Every part of Nuvela started as something a provider was struggling with. The rostering, the SCHADS calculations, the claiming, the worker app — none of it was designed from a feature list. It came from sitting with providers, watching where the time went, and finding out what was actually breaking: the shift that changed at 6am, the sleepover nobody knew how to code, the claim that came back rejected with no explanation, the timesheet that arrived on the back of an envelope.
Those conversations are still how the product moves. When a provider hits something that doesn't work the way their business does, that's not a support ticket to be closed — it's the next thing to fix.
What that means for you
The person who wrote the SCHADS payroll logic has run pay cycles. The person who built the claiming has chased rejected claims. When you raise something that's wrong, you're not explaining your industry to a support desk — you're talking to someone who already knows what a sleepover is and why a broken shift matters.
What you get from a founder-led product
You won't be handed to a support queue. When something breaks, you're talking to the person who wrote the code, and it gets fixed in days rather than sitting in a backlog behind three hundred other tickets. When you need something your business actually runs on — a shift pattern, a claim format, a report — you're not waiting on a roadmap decided by someone who's never met an NDIS provider.
That's the trade. Nuvela is newer than the alternatives. What it gives you in exchange is a product that bends to how you work, and someone who picks up.
